The month of June brought Dean’s birthday, Father’s Day and the first ever Victory Ward Trek.

We didn’t really get to celebrate Dean’s birthday at all, as he was busy fabricating the new ward cook trailer. He had a vision of what it should look like and how it should work, so he was very busy helping design and create the grill. As we were leaving on the trek a few days after his birthday, he spent every spare minute working in the shop. It was all worth it though as it worked great and everyone fell in love with it.

For Father’s Day we just spent a quiet day at home, which was a real treat for him. He is always so busy with church and work, so planning to spend time at home is always a hit with him.

We loved going to the trek. The weather was very cold and windy while we were there. The kids were wind burnt instead of sun burnt, and one night it snowed during dinner and when we woke up the next morning there was snow and ice on our tents. It was 26 degrees. So the kids were able to experience some of the same conditions the pioneers had to endure.

The kids were able to push and pull their handcarts much faster than any of us thought they would, so we had to have them do a rescue mission and back track so we didn’t get finished too soon. As we are with all new things, we were able to come back and evaluate what went right and what needed to be improved. We will be doing another one in your years as there was a lot of enthusiasm for it.

I think the wind blew or it rained or did a combination of both every day in the month of June. It made it very hard for the guys to bale their hay and it made it kind of hard for us to spray our applications, so I am looking forward to warm weather in the month of July.
